Hypnotherapy

There are so many illusions that people have regarding hypnosis. Sometimes it is seen as a tool of manipulation, or a freak show. Something that creates a sense of powerlessness or a feeling of embarrassment. Beliefs such as these can cause great consternation when presented with the option to be hypnotized. Let's break down the process to understand its power and clear up any misconceptions. A little enlightenment goes a long way.

Hypnosis is based on the Greek word Hypnos, to wit the god of sleep. Hypnosis is known as the "sleep state". What is interesting about Hypnosis is that it isn't being put to /sleep/, but rather being guided into a naturally occurring state of relaxation. The biggest fears expressed to me as a hypnotherapist over and over are that the client will "lose control" or be made to "bark like a dog" or the practitioner will affect the good parts!

Since Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state, the client is always in control. You will only bark if that suggestion is given and you want to take that suggestion. Think of it this way. The conscious mind, or thinking mind, the part of the mind that thinks it knows everything, can only hold 7-9 pieces of information a second. That is not much information when you consider how much stuff the senses are glutted with during the day. When the conscious mind gets to a point of over load, like a computer, it needs to buffer all of that information. The mind goes into a state of trance to do that. For example, you are driving down the road and the next thing you know you are at your destination. You may ask yourself "How did I get here?" or “ I don't remember half the journey!”

Well, simply put, your conscious mind was entranced by other things around you, you became so relaxed and your automatic functioning took over (Your Sub-Conscious mind). Have you ever been so involved in a movie that it took someone several tries to get your attention? That is a trance state. You become so associated into that experience that you completely forgot the present experience. Why do you think businesses spend so much money on TV advertising… they want to get you while you are entranced. They know the power of hypnosis.

Hypnosis should be taken seriously, and not seen as a source of entertainment. After all, this can be a tool that can propel your life, career, and sport onto the results you really want. When done in a safe, controlled therapeutic environment, dramatic results can be achieved on a very powerful level.

Hypnosis used in a therapeutic or sports environment and especially coupled with NLP can be a powerful tool for self-change and the 4Cs. Whether to solve a specific problem or issue, or to take a skill you already have and enable you to use it to its full potential, way beyond what you previously imagined to be possible, hypnotherapy can help you.
